Musicians

Billie Joe Armstrong - Lead vocalist, main lyricist, and guitarist for Green Day, one of the most commercially successful bands of the 1990s and early 2000s.  He also plays guitar for the band Pinhead Gunpowder.

Craig Armstrong - Scottish orchestral and film score composer.  He has composed an impressive string ofHollywood film scores including: Romeo + Juliet (1996), The Negotiator (1998), The Bone Collector (1999), Cruel Intentions (1999), Romeo Must Die (2000), Moulin Rouge! (2001, for which he won the Best Original Score Golden Globe), Kiss of the Dragon (2001), Love Actually (2003), Ray (2004), Fever Pitch (2005), Must Love Dogs (2005), and World Trade Center (2006).

Dido - Her real name is Florian Cloud de Bounevialle Armstrong.  She is a Grammy-nominated and MTV Music Awards winning artist most famous for the song “Stan,” which is a collaberation with Emimen. 

Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong - One of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century.  He began his career as a cornet player, later on switching to trumpet, but by the end of his career he was best known as one of the most influential jazz vocalists in history.

Sir Thomas Armstrong - An English organist, conductor, educationalist and adjudicator.  He was principal of the Royal Academy of Music from 1955 to 1968 and was knighted in 1958 for his services to music due to the fact that his influence on British music has been unmatched for well over half a century.

Frankie Armstrong - English Singer and voice teacher.  She was very prominent and active in the folk scene and women’s movements starting in the 1950s Tim Armstrong - Vocalist and guitarist for seminal punk bands Rancid, Operation Ivy, and the Transplants.  Also known for starting the famous independent label, Hellcat Records.

Athletes

B.J. ArmstrongProfessional basketball player from 1989-2000, most notably with the Chicago Bulls.  B.J. was instrumental in catapulting the Bulls to prominence and to Dynasty status in the mid 1990s.

Bruce Armstrong - Professional football player from 1987-2000.  Played offensive tackle with the New England Patriots his whole career and was a 6 time pro-bowler.

Charles Armstrong - American rower winning the Gold Medal in the 1904 olympics.

Darrell Armstrong - Professional basketball player from 1995-present with the New Jersey Nets.  He won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award and the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 1999 becoming the first player in NBA history to win both awards simultaneously.

Davey Armstrong - Lightweight boxer winning the Gold Medal at the 1975 Pan American games.  His career record was 24-3

Debbie Armstrong - A professional alpine skier.  America’s first gold medalist in the women’s giant slalom at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.

Gary Armstrong - Scottish rugby union player who played scrum-half from 1989-1999.  He led Scotland to the 1999 Five Nations Championship, playing his eighth Test as captain as Scotland grasped pole position.

George Armstrong - Professional hockey player from 1949-1971 with the Toronto Maple Leafs.  He scored an empty net goal in game six of the 1967 Stanley Cup playoffs to seal the victory over the Montreal Canadians.  It was the last time the Maple Leafs won the Cup.

George Armstrong - An English Soccer player with club Arsenal.  He helped the Gunners win the 1969-70 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and the 1970-71 League and FA Cup double due to the quality and accuracy of his crossing and corner kicks. 

Hilton Armstrong - 12th overal pick in the 2006 NBA draft.  Noted for his skilled shotblocking and unusual athleticism as a big man.

Kristin Armstrong - American cyclist (not to be confused with Lance Armstrong’s ex-wife who is also named Kristin).  She is a 3 time National champion.  

Lance Armstrong - American professional cyclist famous for winning Tour de France—cycling’s most prestigious race—7 consecutive times, from 1999 to 2005 breaking the previous record of 5.

Otis Armstrong - Professional football player from 1973-1980 playing his whole career as running back for the Denver Broncos. Showbusiness Gillian Armstrong - Australian feature film and documentary director.  Most famous for her 1994 adaptation of Little Women starring Susan Sarandon and Winona Ryder.  Also, her film, My Brilliant Career (1979), was nominated for an Academy Award in Best Costume Design. K.C.
